In Kisumu Ndogo village ,Kilifi County,Mama Monicah is a well-known community health Promoter .Initially she had very little information and was always overwhelmed by fear and pity toward people with disabilities.Infact, she could not get close, touch or even start a conversation with them.
After attending a Disability Outreach and Inclusion Training for Community Health Promoters by Kuhenza, her perspective changed. She learnt that people with disability needed inclusion not pity.
Today,Mama Monicah sees disability as part of human diversity. She is now a passionate disability advocate in her community supporting many children and families impacted with disability. She also shares her story during Kuhenza’s training sessions for other CHPs.
Her story is a reminder that change begins with knowledge. When community leaders are empowered through training ,they become champions of inclusion.Through her testimony many have begun to see disability differently.
